Islington Giving Raises £5million

As 2016 draws to a close, Islington Giving is able to announce that it has reached another big milestone in building resources to support Islington residents. Jack Morris, Chair of the Islington Giving appeal, said “We are absolutely thrilled to announce that Islington Giving has raised £5million since beginning in 2010. I would like to thank all of our supporters, who together have given their time, energy and money to support Islington’s community organisations who are working together to tackle poverty and inequality in the borough. Having reached this milestone, it is vital that we recognise that there is plenty more we can do to make a difference.”

Islington Giving has supported 60 projects, engaged the time and energy of 4,000 volunteers, and has reached almost 17,500 Islington residents. Islington Giving works to reduce the impact of poverty and inequality across the borough by focusing on three main areas; investing in young people, as evidenced by the opening of youth clubs on Friday evenings; supporting families, helped in part by the provision of children’s centres at the weekends; and reaching isolated people, some of whom attend Saturday Socials run in conjunction with Arsenal in the Community. Islington Giving also co-founded the BIG (Businesses for Islington Giving) Alliance which enlists the help of 13 businesses to open employment opportunities for young people in the borough through an employee mentoring scheme involving local secondary schools and community groups.

Everyone and anyone can give their time, energy and money to make a difference for people living in Islington. Join the growing Islington Giving family today by getting in touch with Lynn Butteriss and the Islington Giving team, 020 7288 6941,
