Investing in Young People

Since our launch in 2010 Islington Giving has been committed to investing in Islington’s young residents by opening venues and testing new ways of giving young people opportunities. In 2015 Islington Giving commissioned a consultation with Islington’s young people.  The findings and recommendations from this research entitled Making the Most of Free Time are shaping our young people programme for the future. Through our work we are aiming to support young people to:

  • develop high levels of confidence and self esteem

  • be resilient and able to cope with setbacks

  • establish, and maintain, positive relationships with others

  • feel a sense of agency and understand how to ‘move on’ in their lives to achieve their aspirations

  • be enterprising and demonstrate an openness to new ideas and experiences

New investments in young people

One of our newest programmes working with young people is the Young Grant-Makers Programme. 15 local young people aged 16-26 became Islington Giving’s first Young Grant-Makers in May 2018. They have joined Islington Giving to make grant decisions that will benefit Islington’s young people. You can find more information about the programme, and how to apply, here.
