Can you imagine a place or a state of things in which everything is perfect? This place is called Utopia.
Islington Giving is proud to be supporting Global Generation and a group of young people working with students from Central Saint Martins, who have just moved into King’s Cross. They are starting an exciting new project they have called ’Utopian Generators’.
Led by Berni Yates, CSM Widening Participation Coordinator, and students Stacey, Christine, Taslima, and Nam, the Generators visited the College, and the labs where, surrounded by the smell of clay, ceramics, textile machines, and headless manikins, they had the chance to meet other young people with the same potential of change through innovative ideas.
With this energy injection, the Generators took the mentor students on a tour of Global Generation’s Skip Garden, showing its innovative power and abundance of inspirations, working in the Flying Classroom to come up with ideas to
Table clothes, beanbag cases, chair covers, teapots, napkin holders, trays, signs, wall papers, plant pots, and food bags are just some of the ideas that the Generators are developing. Watch this space.
“In our first session we were able to see different works the students here at St Martins have done and were able to see what and how we are going to connect things from the Skip Garden to the different subjects the student we work with like ceramics or textiles. I thought today helped me to have a wider understanding and allowed me to become more creative in ceramics.” Divine, Utopian Generator
