ANGEL SHED THEATRE COMPANY

Volunteer Practitioner - Weekly Workshops

Angel Shed gives children and young people aged 7-16 – who otherwise might not have the opportunity to do so – the chance to explore a whole new, rich, exciting and safe creative world. In the process, they grow in confidence and develop respect for themselves and each other. They also develop their ability to engage with the performing arts.

Angel Shed needs volunteers to provide these opportunities.

Volunteers help young people develop and grow, and also have the chance to expand their own experience and skills.

Volunteer mentors at Friendship Works

Mentors provide one-to-one support to children facing disadvantage and adversity.

Each volunteer commits to take a child out once a week for a few hours over a minimum 2 year period.

Many of the children Friendship Works supports have had fractured and chaotic childhoods and the long-term commitment of the volunteers is an important feature of the support offered by Friendship Works.
Volunteers apply to become mentors by filling in an online form at www.friendshipworks.org.uk.

Because the children supported are from vulnerable backgrounds, Friendship Works has a detailed screening process including an in-depth interview and a weekend training course. Potential volunteers must provide referees, undertake an enhanced CRB check and be visited at home by their caseworker.

Volunteers get regular supervision from their caseworker to support them in with the demands of the role.
