Islington Giving are delighted to announce that the City Bridge trust have formally joined the Islington Giving Coalition.

The City Bridge Trust has a unique role as a substantial and independent London funder whose sole trustee is the City of London Corporation. They give grants of £15 million a year to charitable projects benefiting the inhabitants of Greater London. Since they began grant-making in 1995, over 6,000 grants have been awarded totalling more than £255 million.

Each year the Grants Committee sets aside funding for strategic purposes. These initiatives go beyond the boundaries of traditional, reactive grant-making and include action research projects, many of which have a London-wide and, in some cases, national benefit. Islington Giving are proud to announce that this year City bridge will fund an innovative project to develop volunteering and activities for older people working in partnership with Age UK, Manor Gardens Trust and other local organisation.

City Bridge Trust Chief grants officer Clare Thomas MBE said, ‘We are developing a new initiative with Islington Giving to address isolation amongst older people. Islington Giving is an innovative way of grant making and offers a model for London to develop philanthropy in the 21st century. The City Bridge Trust is therefore delighted to join the Islington Giving Board in June 2011.’
